Mission Our mission is to run into the burning building that is the accounting industry and bring the industry back to its roots where a firm's relationships with its CPAs are its deepest and most impactful relationships, and to correct 20+ years of ineptitude and bad habits the industry has developed in how it trains, manages, values, and ultimately compensates its staff.
Description We're a boutique tax, accounting, and sell-side M&A firm, and we take the word boutique seriously.

It means we're small, yes, but we're sophisticated and growing. We're going after the same clients we would at our prior firms, we're just offering a very different level of service.

Above all, boutique means everything for us begins and ends with relationships. Relationships with our clients, with their staff, with their other advisors, with our staff, and with those in our network with whom we work.

For our staff, our strategy is three-fold:

1. Smooth out and elevate the uneven standard compensation curve in public accounting that requires staff to be underpaid for a decade before reaching a compensation level that matches their value. Public accounting can be a lucrative career, but you shouldn't have to eat canned food for a decade to reach that payday.

2. Empower our staff to be advisors, not just compliance appliances. Our goal as a firm is to build meaningful relationships with our clients and advise on their business needs far beyond what goes on a tax return or in a set of financial statements. We've been doing it our whole careers and we train and support our staff to do the same.

3. Leverage technology and modern developments in running accounting firms to lessen the workload on our staff, not just increase their total output. We believe great relationships are developed on the back of great work, and great comes from making sure our team isn't overburdened, overworked, and overstressed. We do deep, meaningful work with deliberately smaller number of clients; what we don't do is crank out a ton of shallow, low value volume work across a huge number of clients. Ultimately, the close relationships we form with our clients allow us to spread the workload throughout the year, significantly reducing "busy season", and our goal is to ultimately eliminate the concept of a busy season from our lexicon.

How we work with our team is a direct result of how we work with our clients.

30 years ago, CPAs built deep relationships with their clients and quarterbacked all advisory services, whether they were provided by the CPA or a third-party. The last 20 years in public accounting has seen a shift to focusing on high volume, shallow, easy compliance work. We reject this modern public accounting status quo and embrace the tradition that made our industry important.

On the tax side this means we don’t do any return-only work; all of our clients are required to do some level of tax planning with us. We want tax clients where we can make a difference, and we only take on clients who value that difference. It also means that 99% of our tax work is billed on a flat-fee basis, because we want clients to pick up the phone and call us when they have issues, not worry about how much that phone call is going to cost them; it's much easier to be proactive than reactive when it comes to tax work.

For our outsourced accounting service line, it means providing everything from basic bookkeeping through fractional CFO services. Our bread and butter is developing monthly financial reporting packages for our small and medium business clients that gives them financial clarity they never imagined and that most PE portcos will kill to have. It also allows us to build a deep understanding of our clients' businesses so we can roll up our sleeves and deploy a bevy of tweaks and tricks that we developed in our careers working on the accounting and finance functions for private equity portfolio companies that ultimately make clients more profitable, easier to run, and more saleable upon a liquidity event.
