    Pros

Good pay for the area, flexible time with good benefits. If you are into Nuclear Engineering it's a good place to start but not a good place to end up.

    Cons

It's a tough industry with a great deal of uncertainty. It's not really an inspired place and I found most people were lifers who found one job and stayed there forever if they weren't eliminated. The company has undergone so many changes in such a short period of time. The French owned and operated management appears to be indecisive and contradictory many times, which creates a serious tense environment full of anxiety and instability. Could be a culture gap though .. tough to say.

    Pros

The people are the company and it was the hardest to leave them

    Cons

They are the worst. The higher you get in the company the uglier they are. You see the ugly sides. I quit and moved on and couldn't be happier

I have been working at AFS full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

AFS is the premier company to work for and ensured you felt engaged.
They train employees, offered outstanding benefits such as PTO, Sick time, 401K matching and the list goes on. They ACTUALLY practice the value of an employee and ensure that employee is just not a number. The best part is that they gave back to the community numerous was. Working in the Nuclear industry was very educating and safety of the community and individuals were always number one during the design of the project.

    Cons

Not always having the time to do the job right the first time; told it would be caught in the next phase, sometimes the only catch was the construction phase. The biggest problem was the DOE and their push. Lack of stability was an issue brought on by congress and the president.

    Advice to Management

I have no advice for management...it seemed what they did was right; however the DOE needs some advice.

    Pros

    Great company with talented people.

    Cons

Sadly the nuclear industry seems to be in decline and as a result technical work and learning has stagnated. Also, this is a French owned company and many of the policies to seem to be eurocentric.

    Advice to Management

Management does a pretty good job of working with employees

    "Take good care of employees"

I have been working at AFS full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The company does really try to make the employee happy for the most part. For example, if you had under 70k in salary, they gave a special bonus of $750 in 2012 and other stuff like that, which is very nice.

When Areva parent company did not do well in 2011, the CEO actually traveled around the globe to communicate with all employees about the down time.

The work is ok, I guess, not particularly hard, but it can get stressful sometimes.

    Cons

Working in Aiken is kind of a cons since the town is pretty small and there's pretty much nothing to do.
There's not very much chance to move up the ladder, I know some people being here for 10 years and still doing the same thing they did 10 years ago, and no promotion whatsoever.
Hiring French expatriates is kind of expensive but they still do so extensively although the US workers can do the same job as well.
