    No opinion of CEO

I worked at Alternatives full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Pay is decent that’s about it

    Cons

Understaffed and staff are portly trained. The company hires what seems like anyone. Staff can be lazy and don’t do their jobs but won’t get fired. However staff who are good but open their mouths about this poorly run company and horrible managers end up getting fired for the dumbest things. The company is very unprofessional. Very common for staff to be sleeping with one another as well as management. Don’t waste... your time.

    Advice to Management

Actually train your staff and stop being petty. Pay attention to who actually works and does their job and is good with clients not who sucks up to you. Stop sleeping with your staff.

I worked at Alternatives full-time for more than a year

    Pros

There is a lot of potential for bringing exceptional programming and services to youth. Many of the direct service staff are incredibly passionate, collaborative, innovative, and inspiring to work with, and a few managers are highly skilled at working within a difficult organizational environment to help their departments thrive.

    Cons

Programming is unsupported by the current structures Incompetent and unqualified upper management Overly concerned about appearances Toxic and hostile environment, poor communication hierarchically Overt racism, sexism, and classism that continues to go inadequately addressed Pay grades are not competitive with market rates Lots of time eaten up by managers developing strategic plans and theories of change... that are never implemented Fear based leadership

Alternatives Staff is passionate, creative and outgoing. It's a welcoming and fun environment to work in.

I have been working at Alternatives

    Pros

Great company atmosphere, supportive management. The employees are dedicated and do awesome work in the community.

    Cons

Due to the nature of the work, there is a lot of turnover. The pay is not as competitive as one would hope, which means many employees are hired right out of school and use the experience as s springboard.

    Advice to Management

Keep on the mission. It's important. In the meantime, less turnover would lead to more synergy within departments.
