Poor Management

Pros

The perks of government employment

Cons

This organization suffers from poor management at the top. Mainly because there is usually a basic science researcher at the helm. These are people whose experience of management is based on an antiquated, hierarchical model from academia (i.e. top-down, no consultation). In recent years, this has led to lowered morale across the organization, many extended stress/sick leaves and extremely poor staff retention. The hope was that new management would improve the situation but the attitude of top-down, paternalistic management has continued.
