    No opinion of CEO

I worked at Case Commons as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Important, meaningful work in the public service; committed, good people and very strong developers, at least one of whom I would describe as exceptional (though they've since left the company)

    Cons

On-boarding was virtually non-existent, which was problematic in light of the complexities inherent to the service & the code-base. I was brought in to help with a specific issue (according to multiple, lengthy conversations with the technical interviewer who ultimately recommended my hiring), but I was immediately and consistently assigned where I had no background, ergo a recipe for failure.

    Advice to Management

If you hire someone with expertise in 'x', and to work on 'x', let them mainly exercise their expertise on 'x', while developing new skills

I worked at Case Commons full-time

    Pros

    Dedicated staff but terrible management!

    Cons

Like any start-up company, women face lots of harassment and bias and management does not care about it!!

    Advice to Management

It is a clear division between management and employees. Management does not care about maintaining a workplace without harassment and professional.

I worked at Case Commons (More than a year)

    Pros

Work hours strictly from 9 to 5:45. Tech team intelligent and strictly followed XP principles: pairing 100%, TDD, etc.

    Cons

Engineers not well respected. Little input on product or transparency.

I worked at Case Commons full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The work makes you feel good about yourself and what you are doing. The people around you are generally young, talented and driven to do good in the world. The technology used is far better than your usual non profit.

    Cons

The company has a divide between the technical team and upper management. There is a lack of clarity and direction - future goals of the company are murky and always shifting. Such is the nature of being a government contractor, but it can definitely get old.

I have been working at Case Commons full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

This company has the unique combination of extraordinary talent and heart. The leadership sets the tone for the entire organization with their passion for change and the whole team rallies behind them to deliver leading edge technology and domain expertise to expertly guide customers to successful deployments of Casebook. After nearly 20 years in HHS technology for government, I am relieved and thrilled to work for an organization that delivers on its promises to customers by focusing on great user experience, data-informed decision-making and a tangible return on investment. This company is going to shake-up the business as usual, high-priced, low value, cumbersome technology currently being offered to HHS agencies!

    Cons

Like all upstart, rapid-growth technology companies, there is more to do on a daily basis than one can get one's head around. But, the commitment level of the staff and the can-do, stay-late-to-get-it-done attitude is infectious and hugely satisfying. This team never disappoints, even if it's incredibly tiring.

    Advice to Management

Stay the course. This ship is sailing in the right direction.

    - Excellent collaboration.
    - Able to balance work and personal life.

    Cons

Long term planning sometimes suffers due to short term needs.

    Advice to Management

Have more one-on-one meetings with staff.

    Pros

Smart people, working for a great cause, well funded non-profit, excellent environment and teamwork are highly prized. Agile work processes encourage consistent and regular improvements that can be tracked on a daily and weekly basis.

    Cons

Still immature in fully implementing processes and not sure if the solutions will be implemented due to public policy decisions outside the company's control.
