Pros

Lots of paid time off, decent health insurance and other benefits

Cons

Management often changes rules, guidance, procedures with little notice. The "quality" scoring doesn't measure the quality of your work, instead rules are enforced erratically and often in ways that are contrary to written procedures (and you don't get to contest their decisions). Very high stress job.

Optum not optimal

Pros

None anymore: Optum promised to keep existing Hartford benefits pre-sale, but reneged on the deal post-sale.

Cons

Optum destroyed what job security there was, decimating current employee benefits and moving to on-call scheduling for new hires.

Pros

They paid for me to get my license. People are nice there.

Cons

Let's see where do I start. They make you think it is a wonderful place to work. They talk about how great they are and how you can climb the ladder, etc. etc. It is not a great place to work. If you like high stress, long hours and tiptoeing around this job is for you. They are constantly changing the rules, so much so the supervisors can't keep up with it. They like to say their is no sales when you start, yet they tell you later you have to sell AARP memberships and renewals and if you don't keep quota they let you go. They chain you to a desk for long hours while you get to listen to people yell at you for United Health Cares screw ups. You are constantly monitored as you talk. They call it quality, but they pick apart your conversation and if you have done anything wrong they ding you for it. It is nearly impossible to make 100% on your quality calls. They have mandatory overtime during open enrollment and voluntary the rest of the time. They change your schedule daily, so you have to keep a close eye on it and if you don't do things exactly like they want they will call you the night before or the day that you are to come in and fire you. This job nearly made me quit the insurance business. The stress is overwhelming and by the time they are done nitpicking you; your moral is in the toilet along with your self esteem. Not even management is safe from being demoted in this place. I was never so happy to get out of the complaint dept and break my tether to my desk. I am now an independent agent and I have never been happier. I wouldn't even recommend this job to my worst enemy.
