I have been working at Community Action full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good Benifits - Good programs - Good Early Head Start and Head Start workers

    Cons

The managers suppress growth, and look for a yes person with no thoughts of thier own. The culture is very poor. Several safety concerns.

    Advice to Management

Make changes to have rewarding employees, stop thinking of them as a temp. employee. Top exec. look at your middle management and evaluate them based on thier staff, you will find they're not worth the money your paying them..

    Pros

    It was great helping families.

    Cons

The pay was horrendous and at least once a week was a meeting at a remote location that was pointless.

    Advice to Management

Pay those in the trenches at least a third of what upper management makes that never sees a client.

I worked at Community Action full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Being around the kids is fun. I love working with the children. Have 8 kids per class for every 2 teachers.

    Cons

The amount of work you do is not worth the amount of money you get paid. Don't ever have enough time to do paperwork.

    Advice to Management

Pay more attention to employees needs.

I have been working at Community Action full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The coworkers are great, the work done is important. I have the best team ever. I would never leave if I had a choice.

    Cons

The pay is low because it's a non profit and the job can be frustrating. At least frustrating for me because I can't always help everyone as much as I'd like.

    Advice to Management

Keep valuing your employees. Make sure you hire people who fit well with the team that is already in place.

I have been working at Community Action full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The children, families, and co workers at the lower level keep it all worth it. Everything else, rrd tape. And bureaucracy, make the days hard.

    Cons

The paperwork load and the upper management make it hard to go to work each day. Constantly feel as though alcohol is thrown into a chaotic fire.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to your "grunts" they carry the load here. Try doing what your teachers do, with a positive attitude and no praise or recognition. Its incredibly difficult.

    Advice to Management

you really do need someone or 2 to prep for the drivers you will save time in the long run

I have been working at Community Action full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

In my specific program, I have a lot of flexibility. The hierarchy is flattened so my supervisor and I see each other as equals and make decisions jointly. I have the freedom to be creative and the support and mentorship to continue to grow.

    Cons

At times, I hear things I wish I didn't know. It can be disheartening to hear of such selfish things happening in an organization whose mission is to help the less fortunate.

    Advice to Management

Remember why you are hear and what our mission is.
