Pros
can create meaningful bonds with the clients
Cons
Incompetent leadership and management. I brought up an incident where I saw a staff member verbally abusing a client ( a staff member that comes into work and goes right to bed all night long). I found out this staff member had previous citations at another home so all they did was move her. THE SAME THING HAPPENED! She was verbally abusing clients, had a previous history, was sleeping on the job, and all they did was move her to another home. I tore my MCL before a shift and they would not let me call out. I couldn't walk, was in intense pain, and certainly should not have been doing the duties required of me, but I was forced to work rather than allowed to go to the hospital. Everyone just sits around and gossips about one another. I got into the field as a way to give back, and this company burned me out. They have a way of stealing the joy out of giving back, and it is one of the reasons their turnover is so high. Last straw for me is when I got pulled from my regularly scheduled shift, to work a longer shift (without telling me it was a longer shift) and I missed my ride to go on a weekend vacation with friends. This company needs to be shut down for negligence.
