Pros

The host families are the absolute best part, they are all so welcoming and sweet! They'll feed you (yes to homemade Italian food all summer), house you and really want to have that cultural exchange. Get to see Italy through the eyes of locals - amazing! Good ESL teaching experience and you can have a wide range of student ages and abilities

Cons

If you're flying from the US/Canada it's pretty difficult to actually make any money after paying for airfare and the 200 euro training fee. You have no control over where you go, it's all up to chance. They hire more tutors than they need so they can "put you on hold" if they so please, ie you're stranded in Italy for a week paying your own way

Pros

- Get to travel around Italy! - Built in friends -- the other tutors are (generally) really outgoing & friendly people - Meeting/working with people from around the world - A lot of autonomy in working with your class and planning camp-wide events - ACLE provides housing/food on off weeks in a beautiful mountain-top village

Cons

- Little preparation in advance, as you don't know where you'll be headed from week to week or with whom you will be working - After two summers with ACLE, I've had nothing but positive experiences with Italian host families, although I have known other tutors to "get the short straw" with families that aren't super engaged -If you don't have an outgoing personality, constantly being around new coworkers and families could be draining. The work itself also requires some "performing" in front of groups, so that also calls for comfort with public speaking and being silly in front of others. Emphasizing the importance of a personality fit, because I think people who are comfortable with constant change and new faces probably enjoy it more than others. - Many tutors are put "on hold" for a week or two during the summer, so that means no income during that time and a short amount of time to make alternate plans
