Pros
Great job security. Government contracts last for 10 -15 years so you don't need to worry about lay offs or government shutdowns. Consistent 3% raises every year. Once you hit a threshold of salary, they promote you. Ok benefits.
Cons
Promotion is not based on merit or talent but based off of your current salary. No proper training. Managers don't know what your job is. Bad culture of "this is the way we've always done things". Also they don't groom lower employees to take over a higher position until that employee decides to leave. Then you are forced to quickly learn something without proper training. Unqualified managers.
