We always appreciate receiving constructive feedback from our current employees as we work hard to listen to concerns and make adjustments to the way our business runs when possible. While we have an internal infrastructure for our staff to submit concerns anonymously even receiving feedback on a social media platform such as this is helpful.
The concerns of this employee are representative of many of the challenges that ABA businesses experience in our area. On the surface, it may appear that our company hires “everyone”. However, if this employee was aware of the extent to which our business puts in time, resources, and effort into the hiring process, they may have a different opinion. For example, in the month of December, 2023 our HR Coordinator received 76 applications for our behavior technician positions. Of those applicants, only 1 resulted in an offer letter being sent. That is a hiring rate of 1.3%. As the pros of this post indicated, our pay rates are fair, our ethics are of high importance, and we provide a very high degree of support to our employees. Additionally, the training our technicians who are new to the field receive is far over and above what is minimally required to be certified. In addition to the minimum qualifications, our staff receive an additional 2 days of in-house training as well as in-situ training alongside current behavior technicians. The challenge in this field is to find existing highly qualified individuals to meet the on-going need for ABA services that our community experiences. When those individuals are unavailable, we fall to hiring less experienced individuals and rely on the high quality of training that we provide.
That said, we empathize with the individual who posted this comment as our company is constantly trying to balance meeting the constant need of services for children in our community with the efficacy of our employees to provide high quality services. It may seem that we “literally hire everyone” but we can assure you that this is certainly not the case. We have a rigorous review and training process and we value trying to find the “potential” in the employees that we do hire. Many of the most experienced and highly qualified technicians within our company started here with no experience in ABA. For our company to help meet the ongoing need for ABA services, it will require that we hire both experienced BTs as well as inexperienced BTs who then are trained and develop the skills over time. That is why we provide such a high level of support when it is needed.
Once again, we appreciate the feedback and are always open to discussing these and other ongoing issues more with our staff. Finding the right balance of quality and addressing our community’s needs is a constantly moving target. But it is always worth the effort.
