Pros

Very few pros...Sick leave used to be 12 days, now it's 5 days. Vacation is standard at 15 days, retirement account is better than average, but there's a 5 year vesting period.

Cons

There are so many cons...Let's start with turnover...It's everywhere...Even ELT leaders come and go...Biologists get their training here and leave due to low compensation...Within the administration, there's very little room for advancement, low compensation, and even salary caps based on your title and salary range...There's low morale and the management culture is stuck in the 70s and 80s. ERP implementation in 2016 is still plaguing all business processes as they've become more manual and the overall performance of the business is terrible. Consultants run the organization and skilled employees are being driven away in hoards. The politics at this place are incredible along with the incompetence is just incredible....This business does not know how to treat its employees and its customers. Despite being in the biological tech space, there is no long term strategy and the lack of use of modern business tools boggles everyone's minds. This is the WORST employer I've worked for in over 15 years. Do NOT accept an offer from them...You'll regret it within the first couple of months of starting this job...Doesn't matter what team you're in.

Pros

- Benefits are pretty good -People I directly work with in the labs are good at their jobs - Manassas Campus has a convenient grab and go food area which helps out when I forget to pack a lunch / don't have time to go out and grab something -Closed between Christmas and New Years

Cons

- Needs better coverage for mental health care - It seems like a lot of money goes towards administrative areas, while the lab wings are pretty cramped. It badly needs an extension with additional lab spaces. - Company recently changed from biweekly paychecks to weekly paychecks, which limits the ability to flex time, and being salaried, overtime is not compensated. -Can be very difficult to climb the ladder. Admin staff seem to be promoted more easily than lab staff. - Large reliance on paper records - Management tends to rush implementation of new systems before they're ready - Even with this being a non-profit, C-suite management makes multi-hundred-thousand-dollar salaries, and the old CEO was making over $2M in 2024 while not contributing much. It's hard to believe they're in touch with the common employee - Dragged their heels on implementing parental leave until forced to by law. HR loves to emphasize the small things they implement. -No leave sharing program
