Pros

Lots of good hardworking people doing their best with some good humour. Regular perks and piss-ups

Cons

Some six months ago a senior engineer disappeared. It seems management lied to us that he had "decided" to leave, but noone believe that anymore. he was outspoken, opinionated, yet dedicated software guy, pretty much everyone knows he's pushed, given gardening leave or paid off to keep quiet. Maybe a technical disagreement. Whatever it was he wasn't supposed to say, we realised it must be bad for the company if they were willing to lose him to keep the rest of us in the dark. I heard management have got rid of a earlier troublemaker too but it was before I joined. Since then the software team's morale has dropped. We need to expand to get our projects done, but out of 23 software people, 5 permanents have resigned over the last six months and we've recruited one or two. It sounds similar in other parts of the company. Management are putting on a brave face and saying they're not pandering to coders while spending money on treats and distractions. Fine if all your care about is benefits and getting paid.

Thank you for your feedback. Whilst it’s always appreciated receiving honest feedback from the workforce, it’s also disappointing to learn this is the perception from anyone across our business. Losing members of the team whether it is of their own accord or not is always difficult and the effects it has on a team is always underestimated especially when we’re still quite a tight knit, small organisation. However, people do move on to new challenges and sometimes people do find that as an organisation grows and matures it’s not always the same place it started out as, effectively one can outgrow the other. It’s quite natural at this stage of maturity for a company to go through a period of attrition and for those that have been here a while to move on to pastures new. Whilst we never want to lose good people, we don’t want to prevent people fulfilling their career aspirations either so sometimes it’s unavoidable losing people at similar times during organisation growth and change. We do encourage an environment for people to speak up and communicate but there is an expectation it would be done in a professional manner and in a constructive way which sometimes can be difficult when working in high pressured environments. As a result, work environments can turn toxic and quickly become a place people don’t want to work in if left ignored. I’d encourage you to talk to your direct line manager or come and talk to us in HR where we’d be happy to sit and talk or support you through any changes you are currently finding confusing or unsettling and even if you have questions surrounding anything you feel you don’t quite understand. We’re more than happy to listen and take on board any feedback. Thank you, Alice.

Pros

Loads of autonomy albeit ample amounts of ambiguity to go with it hand in hand but that's what you expect from a young, fast growing company. You're either made for start ups/young companies or ones that are well established that just need maintaining. Diverse culture Opportunity to be part of carving the way forwards for the company at a young age and integrating with our parent company. Generous compensation package, opportunities arise frequently and plenty of scope to make a job what you want it to be. Exposure to challenges you might not necessarily get in an established organisation Plenty of annual get togethers to have fun Loads of really interesting people to work with albeit some of the techs can be really high maintenance.

Cons

Definitely not a company for people that want a steady pace or find it difficult to roll with the punches/changes in direction, though this is not negative, just your preference. Structures change quite frequently but again this is part of a rapid growth process, its expected. Some things change really quickly, others that seem simple can sometimes take a long time but they do eventually happen.
