Pros

Having an impact of people's lives, while embodying and putting ideas of self-advocacy into practice.

Cons

At times it definitely feels like your not paid enough for what you have to do. Constant driving is going to shorten the lifespan of your car.

Pros

Fulfilling work to take pride in. Advocacy is so crucial, especially with marginalized individuals, and planting the seeds that leads adults into a more fulfilling life will never not be an amazing accomplishment. Teaching others to advocate has very often help me learn to advocate for myself.

Cons

Scheduling; or lack there of. There are no guaranteed hours, so if your client who lives 20 miles out cancels last minute, that's you're problem. Management promises to address attendance challenged clients, but there was little to no followup. Even while taking the initiative to follow up with clients, I was essentially part-time, and wasn't even eligible for benefits (you don't get holiday pay either, but good luck trying to find a client who wants to see you on the holiday, further contributing to your lack of hours). They emphasize self care, but its hard to do without an established foundation. Do not recommend if you need consistent income/the sole provider in your house (unless you're willing to get a second job), aren't inclined to drive long distances to make up for time and still not reach full-time hours, or really REALLY hate writing reports.
