Pros
Flexible schedule, HR regularly reviews policies to ensure healthy work/life balance and cultural competency. "Summer Fridays", camaraderie and compassionate morale but only among junior staff. Decent pay for some positions but you'll be too stressed or burned out to enjoy it.
Cons
"Top heavy" with management positions that seem to have no purpose but to serve as seat- fillers and play "telephone" between senior leadership and junior staff. Leadership disconnected and clueless about community the agency serves. Lots of closed door meetings to plan projects without the involvement of direct service staff, so most projects are ultimately unsuccessful. Management doesn't seem to care what doesn't work as long as it fulfills a grant requirement. Managers are paper pushers that comply with the status quo and lack creativity; cogs in a wheel that lack people skills. High turnover with staff once they realize the agency doesn't seem to care about serving the community. Lots of plans and conversations with no action.
