Management can decide to screw employees over on a whim. You can get positive one-on-ones month after month, every month, and a positive year-end review, and for no reason at all they'll PIP you because they need to replace you and are too cheap to pay a severance so they gaslight you. Horrendous company, horrendous management, horrendous treatment of employees.
