Cons

Lack of Progression Overworked and Undervalued When I applied for the role at Acquire Digital I was told in my initial interview that I would be solely responsible for internal IT Operations with the freedom to make changes to improve things and supporting the external Customers queries with the Software in which I would be given full training for. In addition to this my predecessor had left them with lots of outdated Documentation which would need to be rectified as soon as possible. In my second interview I was shown around the team who all "seemed" to enjoy being there followed by a chat with the Boss who had his own ideas about what my role would entail. Whilst this raised a red flag I wasn't happy in my role at the time and decided to accept the role when offered seeing it as a new challenge. The first couple of weeks went okay then things quickly took a downhill turn. No training was provided on the Software with the Boss responding with "the Software can be triaged the same way you would a telephone not working", suggestions to improve the Infrastructure were stonewalled by the Boss despite his number 2 telling me " it is mine to design". This became a regular theme across all aspects of the business making it hard to get things done. Whilst the non management staff were some of the nicest people you could ever meet, Management with the exception of 1 seemed to be above any rules in the Company Handbook that a Drill Sergeant would find suffocating enforced by one Director who genuinely seems to care about the happiness of the Employees despite falling victim to the same stonewalling dished out by the Boss. I've never seen such a high staff turnover in a small Company where the attitude is to just get someone else in; it was literally one person a month left/was fired/quit. You will find out month 6 if you've passed your probation by not being called into a Performance Review. This lead to mental health issues, a lack of sleep and weekends constantly thinking of the fresh Hell that lay ahead the following week. When concerns were raised to the Boss I was made to feel like it was me not doing my job correctly. Whilst the Boss has the Sales skills required to sell Lightswitches to the Amish he lacks the ability to create an environment where his Staff are happy and want to push themselves for the good of the business. This leads to severely lacklustre Products being provided to Customers. His idea of good morale is a Beer Cart on a Friday to patch up his tyranny in the week. Whilst you get Christmas off automatically it is taken out of your 20 days + Bank Holidays leaving you with only 16 throughout the year which are also required to ensure you get paid if off sick due to no Sick Pay otherwise you will only get SSP. Company Benefits are only what is required by Law if it isn't mandatory you don't get it. Whilst all of these things made Acquire a miserable place to work, the saddest thing of all was that the Boss didn't say one word to me throughout my notice period preventing things being left on a good note.
