Pros

Entry level pay is good. Health plan is good, but the employees’ amount has increased over time. Good 401K in that company contributes 3% of your salary automatically.

Cons

Half of the management team is related, so there's a lot of nepotism and favoritism. Turnover in Marketing and Sales is pretty high. There have been multiple instances in both departments of people quitting after a few weeks or being fired for “performance issues”. In terms of growth opportunities, no one gets a title change/promotion, even with added responsibility. They also seem to hire a lot of CS majors and put them in tech support, where they stay for years and then only sometimes move on to Engineering. In general, the company is kind of stuck in the 80’s. There is little to no work from home flexibility or even flexibility around things like doctor’s appointments, special events. If you need time off, you have to take PTO- and by the way, PTO is only in increments of days, not hours. There’s also a policy that if you’re running five to ten minutes late, you have to call ahead so management can keep track. Basically, as long as you’re chained to your desk for 8 hours, even if you don't do anything, everyone is happy.

Pros

ASCI was a great place to work. My peers and manager all wanted to do great work that we could all be proud of. It's a great sized company. It has the resources, yet everyone knows your name and cares about you as an individual. That remained mostly true even after the acquisition and merging. ASCI also transitioned to remote optional. That's a nice plus.

Cons

I don't have many cons. Perhaps it would be helpful to have better cross-department communication. Post-acquisition especially, everyone was crunch time and focused on different areas of improvement.

Pros

I worked in ASCI Engineering for 5 years and it helped cultivate my career unlike the 2 previous companies I worked for. If you're a software developer, you'll get to experience a smorgasbord of programming languages and technologies that the ActiveBatch product uses and integrates with. You'll also be part of a smaller engineering team which is great for communication and collaboration so you won't get lost the shuffle. Engineering is full of brilliant developers with no egos who are always willing to help one another. The company was recently sold and there has been a new CEO take the reigns so some of the "cons" from the previous reviews may not apply anymore. The new CEO has provided more leadership about the direction of the company, future development backed by market research (as opposed to one person determining enhancements) and transparency (budget numbers, sales figures, analysis...etc) than ever before. Other perks - Good salary with yearly increases - Work From Home option (prior to COVID, we were doing this once or twice a week - currently the company is WFH) - Unlimited PTO - this is awesome - Morristown, NJ office location - (walk to restaurants, parks, bars...etc) - Annual bonus

Cons

All engineers will have to be on-call at some point. On-call means an Available Engineer and a Backup Engineer for a week during off-hours. This is determined by a script and while it's nice this is automated, there is a generated email every Friday at noon with the on-call engineers and you have no idea until that point if you're next on the rotation so it makes it really difficult to make weekend plans sometimes. ASCI should adopt a calendar-like tool to provide better visibility at least a couple months in advance.
