Pros

Staff is mostly young and dedicated to the mission plus willing to work very long hours.

Cons

Founder's syndrome which leads to serious management issues. Constant bottleneck from the top in getting decisions made in a timely way. Poor work/life balance. High turnover of key staff. Low pay plus odd benefits coverage. Low morale. Board asked staff to change results of Founder's 360 eval b/c the results were too upsetting.

Pros

This organization has adopted some of the most progressive and supportive policies for its staff of any I know of. They offer fully paid family health benefits, retirement plan, 3 weeks, then 4 weeks and then 5 weeks vacation. Many holidays. Work from home flexibility including support for home offices, a 12 week paid sabbatical every five years, and even a wellness fund for staff. Most importantly they pay in the top 25th percentile (meaning better than the bottom 3 quarters of similar size and focused organizations in their area.

Cons

It can be a challenge for staff to manage in a quickly growing organization with an urgent mission.

Pros

The organization has a lot of dedicated, sweet, and hardworking people. The work environment is generally pretty welcoming and flexible. For folks who have been working there a long time, they obviously really enjoy working there.

Cons

I think everyone does mean well, but there is a white savior complex here. No Black or Indigenous people work here, ironically
