Pros

The company is trying to be positive, including pushing Mental Health First Aiders, Benefits Packages and Support from Some of the supervisors

Cons

Management on the Northern contract have limited care for the staff. They are more focussed on how they appear to the client and their managers. The company have pushed mental health first aiders but then have allowed a contract manager to become one who has shown little to no care for the staff on the contract and often just uses the line of “well they are rostered in so they’ll do it” not caring about the staffs previous plans or family/life commitments. There have been multiple occasions where staff have brought up reasonable adjustments including ones around protected characteristics and they have been met with dismissive attitude and unsupportive behaviour or mentality, again from someone who is supposed to lead and be a mental health first aider. Often using the line of, we have a way of doing things and we are going to keep doing them that way. There are multiple supervisors / team leaders that are attempting to do their best for the team however are very much between a rock and a hard place, the staff want/need support and the contract management are not interested and are often the biggest reason people choose to leave, and the biggest red flag is that some have left prior to finding employment because of the behaviour of the management team on the contract. They will quote the contract consistently but then as soon as you bring anything up that they expect you to do external of that contract it’s all about how you can support the team, develop the contract and push things forward. They will inevitably force you to attend a “contract celebration event” that is about them having people that they talk to constantly do presentations about either irrelevant things or just to tell everyone who that person is. The “celebration” lasts all of 5 minutes and is about 3 awards squeezed in at the end. Not to mention the awards are just political footballs that the management on the contract use to push their narrative and blow smoke up the people that are their current favourites.
