Pros

I have been lucky to work in a department with incredible people, always looking out for each other and really supportive. The work is very varied and I am empowered within the role and trusted to do what I know best. There are some really great ideas, products and initiatives in the business and our department really encourages fresh ideas. An amazing set of people to work with - we work everyday between L+D, design, product, subscriptions, data - and these teams are full of great people. My manager is incredibly supportive, a joy to work for. 25 days holiday a year The Archant Gold charity matching scheme is brilliant (they match your fundraising up to around £2-3k per event) We are given an extra day of annual leave for volunteer work. They have equipped us with excellent kit to work remotely during covid and it looks like we will be continuing with flexible working which is helpful for a lot of people.

Cons

The pay is often lower compared to similar jobs elsewhere, which can be frustrating, especially when the same group of people in management appear to be consistently promoted. There are a couple of 'bad eggs' in the business that have been bully-like or inappropriate - fortunately it really is the minority but all levels of management need to come down very hard on anyone who shows disrespect. Sometimes people who shout loudest can get further than the really hard workers. And literally - these people shout over you in meetings!
