Pros

Free tea and coffee (although this is standard anywhere I've worked, and they make a big deal out of it at Artemis). Semi-flexible working hours.

Cons

Very low salary, expected to work evenings and weekends without remuneration, no training, poor treatment of employees, aggressive contracts that won't allow you to work for another engineering company for at least a year after leaving. Repeatedly told that we were lucky to be there and that if we weren't happy with a low salary we should go and work in a bank. When somebody had a serious accent involving the machinery they were scolded for making too much fuss by going to the hospital. Never had a single appraisal, exit interview etc.

Pros

- Challenging and rewarding work - Opportunity to learn many new skills (programming, mechanical design, electronics etc.) - Very supportive team + managers/directors - Open plan office keeps teams feeling connected - Quick and informative training on using test rigs + machining tools - Nearby countryside great for lunchtime runs (shower facilities available) - Great food van nearby for lunch!

Cons

- No formal internship program meaning work is less planned out/structured and evolves as you go - but this is arguably more realistic! - Aside from the amazing food van, lunch options are somewhat limited - there are shops a bit of a walk away but otherwise it's bring your own lunch (there are microwaves) - Building is a converted warehouse so has an "engineering" feel but don't expect luxury facilities
