Pros

Tricia is an incredible principal. She is what you've always hoped a principal and boss would be, but never found. She is incredibly supportive of teachers. She gives a ton of freedom (as much as she's able) while still having high expectations. She never ever throws employees under the bus, and always puts the kids first. Due to this, she has attracted an amazing team of loyal staff who stick around year after year, which means having a great team of teachers to work with. I was touched every year by how well the teachers knew all the students and how much they did for them.

Cons

For the special education department specifically, Ascent follows a high-expectation, high-support model. I chose this because I enjoyed all the resources available to the kids, but I could see how for someone new, the expectations could be A LOT, especially if you've taught Resource elsewhere and are used to more autonomy. Additionally, communication could be quite tricky across the whole department, though everywhere I've worked has had that challenge.
