Pros

The only pros are the families. All of my interactions with the children and parents were positive. Of course you will deal with behaviors etc. all the things that come with that but the parents want the help.

Cons

The pay is low for the following reasons, you will spend a great deal of time responding to and sending emails. Gas mileage reimbursement is a joke and not at all what they promise. The online training does not adequately prepare you for what you will experience in the field. When you are assigned cases your Supervisor will more than likely not be honest with you about the severity of the clients issue sand be willing to work with you on coming up with an adequate program to address them. Once the parent is comfortable with you they will more than likely give you the real deal. The pay is incredibly low for what the job actually requires. If you do not develop a rapport with your Supervisor/BCBA on your cases good luck because all that I have dealt with do not really care to provide on the job training that Zoom training fails to provide. Request training with shadowing before taking clients.

We appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts with us. As a Behavior Technician (BT), seeing your clients make progress is the highlight of our work. That's why we invest heavily in training to equip our team with the knowledge and confidence they need to excel in their sessions. The level of experience and training required to directly administer ABA services is set by the industry governing board and the insurance companies/school districts that provide our funding; the current requirements encompass an expansive task list of training topics, and additionally ALP provides training sessions with technician’s clients in order to deliver practical, competency-based training beyond what is required from the certification board. ALP actively collaborates with neurodiverse experts, self-advocates, and content creators to create trainings and protocols that are compassionate, assent-based, and neurodiversity affirming, and we are working to provide collaborative, client-centered care for all we serve. We’re sorry your experience was not what you’d expected, but we believe strongly in the importance of training and know that BTs depend on these tools and other resources in order to be successful in their roles every day. And we understand driving can be a tedious part of this job, but we make sure that all of our BTs are paid for their drive time and mileage reimbursement. During the recent gas spike at the end of last year, we even increased the mileage reimbursement to account for increased gas prices. Thank you again for your service to our families, as well as taking the time to share your experience. Your feedback is invaluable to us, and we'll make sure it's shared with the team.

Pros

None that I can think of.

Cons

- insane expectations for little to no pay -they do not pay for time between clients - they expect you to work hours you are not paid -micromanaging here is next level, they value billable hours over client outcomes - massive billing fraud, which was dismissed when I brought it up to my supervisor - unsupportive environment for new BT’s - unsupportive environment for supervisees - unethical behavior - BCBA’s burnout with high caseloads and not doing anything during telehealth visits - random operations people making bad clinical decisions - extremely controlling management who put you on or take you off clients without your consent and for no reason - management retaliates against you if you don’t do all the billable hours despite honoring families request -scheduling department is an absolute mess, they take weeks to resolve billing issues or update appointments - poor or non existent supervision - high turnover rate of BT’s, they hire BT’s and accept clients without enough bcbas - they give clients to bts that are over an hour away with so travel pay - they expect you to be available all day long without paid hours
