Pros
Though I was at Avail a short time, I can wholeheartedly say that my co-workers were the best part of the job. The majority of the company is made up of incredibly smart individuals who are also genuine, caring humans. The work itself was rewarding. I was able to have a large impact from day one since the company is very small (the marketing team only had 4-6 people while I was there). It was a very flexible job. The unlimited PTO is great, but only if you use it.
Cons
Management is abysmal at best, and there is no HR department. Overall, management has a very “old boys club” feel that progressively got worse in my short time with the company. Just be aware, if you have issues and try to bring them forward like an adult, your concerns will be ignored. The management of the marketing team specifically is the most problematic of it all, and the co-founders encourage it. If you are looking for a supportive, empathetic, employee-first environment, you will not find it at Avail. From my personal experience, I can confidently say, if you’re a strong-willed female who calls out problems within the company, you won’t last long here. Upper management wants a team of “yes mans” who will do whatever it takes regardless of the consequences. Aside from the management, I was completely misled when I was hired. I was promised the company was getting everyone 401(k)s within the first few months of me starting, then it was pushed, then pushed back again. As far as I know, the company still doesn’t have plans for 401(k)s. The healthcare is also lacking. The company only covers 25% and they do not offer dental or vision.
