Pros

The company manufactures water treatment systems. I gained a decent breadth and depth of engineering experience.

Cons

I applied for this job while I was on employment insurance. The Province of B.C. offered a wage subsidy program to facilitate companies hiring and training staff in areas that they had little or no prior experience with. To grease the wheels as far as getting hired, I helped the company apply for this program which subsidized my salary. Unfortunately, within a few short weeks of the 6 month subsidy lapsing, I was laid off despite decent feedback about my job performance. Seems the owner only wanted to cash in and keep and engineer on staff for a limited period of time at little cost. Salaries are also about 30% lower than what market rates offer in the area so being both grossly underpaid and laid off, it wasn't such a good experience.
