Pros

I've advanced leaps and bounds in my career at Baboon Animation at a speed I didn't know was possible. As an intern, I took notes on high-level meetings, participated in creative brainstorms and writer's rooms, and learned the ins and outs of animation production at various stages. As a coordinator, I've been able to work on some incredibly cool projects, in both an administrative and creative capacity. My opinion is valued, and my coordination skills have improved exponentially. Baboon works with lots of different clients in various spaces - development, writing, and voice acting - and the small size of the core team means that I've been able to work closely on major projects in all of these spaces. There are lots of opportunities for growth within the company, and the team encourages interns and junior coordinators to give their input into projects. Writing for television projects has been my goal for years, and it's been amazing getting to actually do that here.

Cons

The internship program - and Baboon as a whole - is very "high pressure, high reward." It's a hard job, with important deadlines, intense production schedules, and lots of learning curves. But it's also incredibly educational, providing interns with significant hands-on experience, and holds you to the high standard needed for industry professionals. It's not an internship (or job) for everyone - it's much higher-stakes than many other development internships that tend to focus on lower-stakes tasks like script coverage or research - but if you're willing to work hard, it's invaluable.

Pros

character building but in a im-gonna-need-therapy-for-the-next-ten-years not in a wow-i-learned-so-much way

Cons

quite literally everything. mike de seve is to blame. the way he talks to his wife (on the phone in the office) says everything…. minimal basic human respect for his unpaid interns who are the only people running the company. there is a reason no one else works there long term or full time. the only long term partners never come in the office. simply unpleasant. do yourself a favour and not put yourself through this literal hell of an experience. mike if you’re reading this. take a moment to reflect and think about how you’re treating people.
