Pros
The quality of the files and the importance of the work in the legal/regulatory group is great. Co-workers are very smart, very nice people, excellent opportunity to make high level contacts and participate in the policy process. Outside of Toronto and Vancouver, the pay is good and the benefits are good.
Cons
Less innovative policy development in recent years, greater focus on the dividend above all else. Limited vision. Significant workload (I have been a firm lawyer and can say that the workload as in-house is greater, but there is no client development burden). Great place for beginning and mid career as a lawyer, probably not a long term or late career choice. No real interest in ensuring work/life balance.
