Pros

I started at Benevolent right as the pandemic hit and was incredibly worried about starting a new job remotely. Little did I know that Benevolent had overhauled their full onboarding to make it feel inclusive, lined up days worth of meetings for me and make sure I had all the support I needed to start off on the right foot! The people at the company are the biggest pro - everyone is nice, welcoming, and more than happy to knowledge share. While we’re all working apart, the company has gone above and beyond to make sure we all feel included and a sense of ‘togetherness.’ I truly believe in the mission of the company and am very happy to work here

Cons

Nothing comes to mind - every employment journey is different but mine has been very positive

It makes me so happy to hear that you had such a positive onboarding experience and that you enjoy the culture. I know how hard our People Team team works to make new joiners feel welcomed and supported, so it's great to hear that it's coming across as intended and we'll definitely keep it up. Indeed, we're lucky to work alongside so many inspiring people! Thanks for taking the time to share your experience.

Pros

People at Benevolent are kind, patient, friendly, and yet also serious about getting good work done. The vibe is start-up: mission, freedom, and innovation. Unlike many start-ups, however, employees also feel empowered to leave at 5pm and also make time for their own learning. Plus European benefits like generous holiday and parental leave. Flexible work-from-home, too. The company feels stable and nurturing, and the problems we're working on are super interesting. Finally, the high level of tech support across the company, including more lengthy collaborations between teams, is a privilege in itself. I learn so much from my colleagues all the time.

Cons

For software engineers and AI scientists, I think the pay doesn't yet compare to very big tech companies, which is who we lose our tech talent to when we have turnover. Being split over NY and London time zones can also make communication and scheduling tricky. Finally, the NY office is small compared to the London one, so NY workers can sometimes feel a bit out of sync if most of their team members are in the other time zone, or occasionally also vice versa.
