Pros

Good support for distributed development. Many people work from home all or part of the time. Large team many with deep experience. Market dominance of the product line.

Cons

Not much face to face interaction. Teams are distributed over many centers in Australia and New Zealand.

We appreciate the time you have taken to review Best Practice Software. As a business, we try our best to work with our team members to provide solutions that allow flexibility (Work from Home - Hybrid arrangements) that supports some of our personal needs, while balancing the possible impacts this might have on consistency or wellbeing. The flip side of a flexible arrangement is the balance of social interaction with fellow team members that is face-to-face, so, maybe a few more (planned) days in the office with team members would be a solution to the lack of face-to-face contact.

Pros

Best Practice has a strong legacy as a leader in Australian healthcare. They've made a great impact to the industry over many years and has historically earned a reputation for strong customer focus. The company also offers excellent work-life balance, including flexible working arrangements and work-from-home opportunities, which I genuinely appreciated. Unfortunately, more recent organisational changes have not reflected those same strengths in my experience.

Cons

By the time I left the company, I felt the culture had deteriorated significantly. The company seemed to lose a clear sense of strategic direction, and leadership became increasingly inconsistent. Behaviours that damaged trust and collaboration were tolerated, making the workplace increasingly stressful and unsettled. This was particularly disappointing because many employees and leaders remained genuinely committed to the company's success. I also witnessed the departure of many talented and experienced colleagues, which was a significant loss for the business. For these reasons, I could not, in good conscience, recommend the company to a friend at present.

Pros

I have never worked any where more flexible. If you need time off or if you want to work at home for 4 days you can do whatever helps you. I have a good connection with what they stand for and the products you work on are making a big difference in health care. I find the management cares about the people as much as they care about the company doing well. About a year ago there were some people testy with the changes they made to remove a whole layer of management who never even worked on the software, they just signed rosters and payslips and generally looked busy. But now the managers are fairly good and we now see some really good people being hired and they bring new ideas to our office. They removed a few people who were holding the place back and its made a difference. Since I have been here they changed how they plan for FDD and they openly tell you they hold people to account which is good because all the staff are pulling in the same direction.

Cons

They don't pay as much as you get in game dev or consulting. When I came here I took a 7 % pay drop adn this year we only got 4.0 % increase so I am behind where I was only a couple of years ago. You don't get a salary review meeting every quarter so it is up to someone in management who ends up saying what increase you will get. Also they don't pay for training so you end up learning on the job. There are smart people here to guide you through the medical aspect but they really should pay for a dip or AIDH membership if you never worked in it before.
