Pros

Great company and enjoyed my side of work. Despite the constant change this year, I enjoyed my time. However, there is a problem that makes it difficult to give BIO the stars it deserves.

Cons

The only con involving BIO is the leadership in the facilities department. This isn't to say all leadership in the department mismanaged their work and team; it truly falls on just one of the managers. If you're curious as to who this person could be, all you have to do is reach out to any staff member at BIO and ask about the facilities department. I'm positive everyone would know exactly who the manager is, but we'll purposely leave that out of this Glassdoor review to avoid it being taken down. As for the mismanagement, there are a number of examples. One such example, which is almost unbelievable, is that under the leadership of this department (prior to this year’s restructuring), a large number of coffees, creamers, snacks, and sodas were allowed to expire. On the surface, this doesn't sound so bad, right? However, these goods were stored in four large storage rooms, and they filled most of the available space. To make matters worse, they weren't just recently expired—a majority of them were expired by six months or longer. This issue was noticed back in January 2024, and not by the leadership but by newly hired temp workers. When the temp workers raised awareness of this issue, leadership quickly had them clean it up. From what I was told, it took two weeks to fully dispose of all the expired goods. How did the leadership not know that the goods they were storing and distributing had expired? Additionally, that’s a lot of money spent on goods that ended up in the trash because leadership wasn’t tracking their inventory properly. Fortunately, the temp workers resolved this issue later on. They took it upon themselves to start tracking the inventory efficiently. To be clear, leadership did not ask them to do this—the temps were the ones who recognized the problem, solved it, and developed a system to prevent such waste in the future. On a separate note, leadership in that department proved to be unprofessional when responding to emails. This alone shouldn't be too big of an issue if you don’t have to communicate with them often, right? Unfortunately, the facilities department is the main point of contact when reserving office space or providing documentation for any guests you may have. It’s sad that I have to call this "unfortunate," but it is. This is a department you have to constantly reach out to for assistance, but time and time again, the leadership would send passive-aggressive emails. Mind you, this wasn't just to me or my friends, but something I’ve heard from multiple fellow staff members. One might argue that leadership isn’t the only one sending out emails—the temp workers also respond to them. To be clear, these unprofessional emails came from leadership, not the temps. I could say a lot more, but I’ll mention just one more incident. There was a private survey that went out among the staff regarding a Lunch & Learn run by Facilities, meant to teach us the proper procedures for interacting with the department. During this Lunch & Learn, the leadership spoke in a condescending manner, made small quips at fellow staff members, and at times made eye contact with specific staff members when discussing the proper procedures. As a result of this unprofessional behavior, a survey was passed among the staff to gauge whether we felt the way she spoke to us was appropriate or not. Unfortunately, nothing came of this survey. Not too long after it was distributed, the restructuring of BIO took place, and many of us were let go.

Pros

good people and ability to meet many different folks in the industry.

Cons

little direction and too much work to juggle. can get bossed around by some very toxic people from external companies without managers stepping in for support. has turned into somewhat of a passion project/cult of personality for the new ceo rather than an all of team organization.
