Pros
The technology you work with is great. Heavy Microsoft environment with a nice smattering of Macs. The other Frontline Engineers are great people and are the only thing keeping the place from sinking. The SMB clients they conned into signing a contract are very nice people for the most part. I can’t say I ever heard a customer say anything bad about anyone at Blacktip except for once maybe.
Cons
I’m going to start by saying that I think the family that runs it is more than likely great people OUTSIDE of the job. At the job, it is the exact opposite. The owner runs it with his young daughter and wife. You have to ask questions multiple times because either they do not listen or do not care about what the employees say or need. When ownership has a bad day or phone call, he would immediately run out of his office and then blast the first person he came across. It didn’t matter if you were remoted into a system and had grandma on the phone. He would come in your office and start screaming to the point the customers always heard. When talking to the underage inexperienced in everything plus life kid, she would replicate daddy by either ignoring you or agreeing her father has anger issues and to expect to have it taken out on you. All said with a shrug. I can’t count the # of times I heard him letting out a blood curdling scream at an engineer. The real bad thing about the situation is that he will strut around talking about how he owns the place and then will go on about how he is also HR as well and won’t truly help anyone with any HR issues because basically, “screw you and your problems”. The daughter should have been made to get a job on her own so she would actually see how things in a real company are run and how unacceptable the treatment there is. Out of 20+ years of working in the IT field, I have never had a company as unprofessional as Blacktip IT. The ONLY person that doesn’t throw tantrums like a 3 year old is the wife who works offsite.
