- There is an extra day off every month or so for mental health which is greatly needed.
Cons
- Management rarely understands the complications involved with the code base so a lot of their asks are far more difficult and time consuming than they think. One of the biggest open complaints in the company is that management has a poor understanding of software engineering which really shows. This was brought up frequently and openly in all hands meetings. - Hiring practices don't seem to be effective. They've hired a lot of people who have little to no knowledge of the tech stack so a lot of the code base is very disjointed. Their challenges are heavily weighted towards people who just simply know banking rather than engineering. - Projects are often rushed and once completed are quickly forgotten. I've had to crunch through a few projects to meet unrealistic deadlines only to have the project abandoned by the company the week after it was completed. - There is little to no collaboration between teams. If your work depends on another teams work, management prefers to guess how the other teams project works rather than include them in planning. This has cause us problems every time. They recently tried to solve this by changing teams so each team works on the whole code base but with so many things you need to know about the design, push good code is extremely difficult.
