There is an unwritten expectation that you should sacrifice your family and live to work and not work to live. I've lost count of the times my colleagues or I were put in situations where we were expected to work evening hours, sacrifice our time with family, and shammed for choosing family. There is very black and white thinking from management often putting employees in situations where they're voluntold to do tasks. Expect to only get a cost of living wage raise. The performance bonus process is the worst I've ever seen at any agency. It has changed every year I have been at the agency, the hardest workers I know didn't even get one, and the majority of employees were labeled D grade employees.
