British Rowing

Is this your company?

Worst place I've worked, which is a shame as it has so much potential. - Anonymous employee British Rowing Employee Review

Pros

Most of the people I worked with were dedicated, hardworking and good fun. The location is lovely and there are some great riverside pubs to nearby.

Cons

Everything else. The management is old and stagnant. The way they work is 'well this is how it's always been done' so there is no acceptance for new ways or ideas. The business is split by the 'National Office' and the 'International Office' and there is no mixing allowed. The International Office lord it over thinking they are superior just because they deal with the international rowing team and scowl at you if you so much as visit their section of the office. The IT team are great but they are not incorporated across the whole business so you have the two teams on different systems. Their systems are antiquated and you do not get praised for good work. Most the time any 'perks' of the job are given to the favourites rather than those who deserve it or have the experience. Turnover is ridiculous for such a small work force which highlights that there are many underlying issues with the company. Finally, I left in 2013 so things may have changed but seeing in that time they have managed to chase off a seemingly experienced and competent CEO I very much doubt it.

Pros

Great people, hard working and passionate about what they do. Great to be involved in a sport that is achieving so much success in the international arena.

Cons

Internal communication needs to be worked on. The organisation is going through some significant changes in terms of management team structure and hopefully this will have a positive impact. Decision-making process can be a bit long winded. There needs to be more collaboration between British Rowing and the GB Rowing Team - they are currently run like two separate organisations. This is improving but too slowly. The IT systems need to be integrated, so one email for both BR and GB
