It was challenging and exciting. I received numerous awards for my work/advocacy. This included an Hon. Doctorate from a local university.
Cons
There were dramatic changes in the board due to illnesses and retirements. An unethical lawyer advised the board and senior staff on ways to harass and bully me. Eventually I and three other board members were sued. We lost but gained invaluable information. This included emails between a lawyer and a staff person where the lawyer advised the staff person and other board members on ways to harass and bully myself and three other board members. The good part of this is the emails between this lawyer and staff person are filed in the BC Supreme Court and I am free to share the documents--and I have. My goal in doing so is to prevent this lawyer from carrying such activities with other organizations. He freely states in the emails that he had "helped" other organizations to get rid of people. I am aware of other people receiving similar treatment. The difference is that I have the proof of who was behind it.
