Pros

Starting off this is a great company to learn about the industry. The field operations team is full of great people. Anywhere from your foreman's, superintendent's, laborers, operators, mechanics etc. These guys are the best to learn off of and build relationships with. The company as a whole performs great and safe work. They are not one to skip corners and prioritize the safety of its field employees. Any city or agency can vouch the high quality work that is performed by this company. They provide a company truck with fuel card on day one of employment for the operations team, In my personal experience, they have done a great job in keeping me on projects near my home. Although this is not the case for everybody.

Cons

Upper management is the reason you will hear anything negative about this company. Don't be fooled by those fake 5-star reviews. There is a big sense of superiority and ego with the upper management team, that makes it incredibly tough to enjoy working here. If you are an entry-level position, you don't mean anything to these guys. A lot of times they won't even acknowledge you, much less listen to any suggestions and answer your questions. This can also be seen in multiple Project Managers who are notoriously known for being difficult to work with. However, this company would rather lose 10 good Project Engineers than to let go of 1 bad upper management position. All this leads to a high turnover rate, which I've seen first hand during my time here. Compensation here is not very competitive. You don't work here because they have great pay and benefits. Their packages and offers are average, if not below that. They are, for lack of better word, "cheap", at least when it comes to their lower-level employees. This is not a place where you will be awarded big bonuses or "nice" raises, even if you are performing well. Promotions follow the same ideology. This leads to no real incentives to continue performing well. The company is also not the most involved. Most people just show up, work their 8 hours (if they are hourly employees), then leave, More so if you work out of the corporate office. The energy and environment there is depressing to say the least. There are minimal company events and there is no real "family environment" that they continue to promote. Other companies have regular outings, dinners, events, fun activities, trips, whether it may company wide or more exclusive/team-based. You won't see any of that here. They don't invest a lot back into technological advances and keeping up-to-date with the modern world. They would rather use an outdated, difficult to use software than invest in something much more modern and efficient that is more of the industry standard. (i.e. Procore) The training period when you first arrive in this company is essentially non-existent. Every company has their unique methods of operating. This company is no stranger to that, however they do a terrible job at preparing you and kind of just throw you in the deep end and rely for others to teach you. It also doesn't help that the software used for the "brains" of their operations is ancient and difficult to learn. Projects vary between public works and Caltrans, and maybe some private jobs. A lot of projects can be repetitive and unexciting, but that is just this line of work so I don't hold that against them. However, no matter how big a job may be, budget and duration wise, most projects are ran by one PM and one PE. So there is not a lot of support in day-to-day operations, which leads to excess amounts of work for only two people. This also leads to being stuck inside behind a computer for the majority of the day, not allowing much time to be on-site. If you are someone who enjoys to be out in the field the majority of time, like myself, this company is not for you, Not to mention the night work, where upper management expects you to be present for a full night-shift and continue working throughout the day.

Pros

The company has great benefits, including higher 401k match, full employee and family health, dental and vision coverage paid for by the company. Operations staff has good over sight with out micromanaging. They are available to give direction and answer questions with out wondering why my lunch was 63 min long. They have bonding events, bigger than a pizza party, and management and owners actually show up to them, and participate.

Cons

Lower pay scale, mostly due to other leniencies, and tendency to hire those with less work experience.
