No red tape in IT department great position for a budding IT pro
Cons
If my position is ever replaced my advise to management would be to let your subordinates move at their own pace and allow them to explore freely. Also rely less on outside consultants for big projects I understand but managing the backend IT infrastructure should be done by in house IT both people not just one guy
