Pros

I’ve always been paid on time. The horses are very well taken care of. It can be long hours but is very rewarding. The owner has always been very nice to me and helped me out with a lot.

Cons

I don’t see this as a con, but a lot of people do. You get what you give! If you work hard and are honest they treat you very well! And during the summer most of the barn staff are girls around 20yrs old so there’s so normal girl drama that goes on. I’ve always been able to avoid it.

Pros

Years later, I still think that my work at this summer camp was one of the more formative experiences I've had-- in a positive, character building way. You are given a lot of responsibility to lead and opportunities to rise to challenges. This experience can be what you make of it. Working 24/7 with other young women is a one-of-a-kind experience that you probably won't ever get again. Working 24/7 with kids is also a one-of-a-kind experience that will teach you more about your work ethic and values than most other jobs. As a bonus, it's also a beautiful place and you'll make incredible friendships through this intense but dynamic job.

Cons

This job can be draining, but that is true of all summer camp counselor jobs. As mentioned by others, I didn't get paid until the end of my experience. So long as you are ok getting paid at the end of the summer (you do have room and board provided throughout), I think there is a lot to gain out of working here. Do check with with them directly though, because the timeline when they pay and how often might have changed since I worked there.
