Pros

Pros -Snacks and drinks provided (Like every other office in San Francisco/Silicon Valley) -Lunches on Thursday (Although not as good as other companies who provide both breakfast and lunch daily)

Cons

The company is divided by 2 products. Canto - the new SAAS product and Cumulus - the legacy enterprise solution: SAAS product (Canto) -Want to work for a company that spends hundreds of dollars on team lunches to woo potential candidates who go on to decline their offer? This is your place! -Developed entirely in China. If you have any assets that are trade secrets then you have no guarantee that the Chinese don't have full access to it other than the companys word. -Existing customer support resources are vastly outweighed by those dedicated to bringing in new suckers.... pardon me, customers. -Unintuitive UI design and processes. Far superior products are available from competitors at better price points/more bang for your buck. -A number of recent positive reviews are written by investors/Family members who don't actually work in the office. Take the recent glowing reviews with a grain of salt. Expect a number of new ones to flood in after this one. -Constant team meetings with no clear goals or tangible benefit. Enterprise Product (Cumulus) -Bare bones American staff. Number of people dedicated to it can be counted on one hand even if said hand has suffered from a table saw accident. -Aging product with no plans for code refactoring. Developers admit that they will never do a top down improvement of the product, such as implementing a faster database like postgres, "Because it's too hard" -New features are introduced with zero documentation meaning you have to stumble over every roadblock possible to implement any newly added feature. Often leads to large time delays (weeks, even months) before the customer can even begin to use what they paid for. -All level 2 support and Developers are in Europe so if you have any sort of critical issue that has been submitted during American working hours it won't even begin to be looked at until the next day at a minimum. -Attempts to sell off division have all been unsuccessful. As soon as interested parties do any due diligence they see what a nightmare the product currently is to maintain and improve. WebDam, Widen, various VC's have all passed on buying them out. -Constant cash grab. Any new interesting features are usually accompanied by a 4 figure cost. Software upgrades also cost money. -Expect zero formal training or onboarding if you are hired. Overall -Office is kind of dirty. Have only ever seen the trash taken out daily and never witnessed any vacuuming, deep cleaning, or sanitization. Bug infestations are common. -The only climate control is old fashioned steam heaters. -Nepotism is rampant. The highest earners with the best job titles usually share last names with management/investors. -Tiny cramped office. Constant distractions and noises.

Canto Software Response

We always consider feedback from our employees, past or present. To be honest, I am dismayed about the comments made in this review. While not always perfect, we aspire to treat employees with respect in a collegial environment where there is a healthy balance between the competitive nature of business and the support employees need to thrive. Importantly, we look to provide opportunities for all of our employees in their professional development, and there are abundant examples of our employees making significant professional progress in a short period of time. As to our company strategy with regard to our two products, our approach is working nicely. We have seen growth in both of our product lines, including over 100% for three years in a row from our Canto SaaS product, and our overall company growth will be a record this year. One consequence of this growth is that our office space is becoming a bit tighter as we are adding to our dedicated staff of employees. As such, we are moving into a larger space in the near future.
