- Many clients needs (physical and cognitive) in retirement homes are leaning closer towards those in a LTC. Retirement homes are becoming less "independent living" and more LTC.
- PSW/HSW's working in a retirement home make less money, overall, as there is no travel time paid or km. PSW's work harder and faster than those working in community. In RH clients get 15 mins for general care and 30 mins for care and shower and the number of clients scheduled are numerous (generally 12-15, sometimes more). Repetitive strain, overexertion and overload on the body and prone to injury. There are no electric lifts and in some RH's, skeleton staff to assist the agency worker.
- Not everyone's schedules are equal, meaning that some people are loaded with clients while others are barely getting 4hrs/day.
