Cons
The College was on a pronounced downswing for my entire tenure. There is a sense of stress and anxiety running through everything. You can tell it is the kind of place where the board acts like royalty, bullying the VPs over this or that. The VPs turn around and bully their staffs. If you work at Carthage, you're signing up to carry a handful of these toxic relationships, and the stress will follow you home most evenings. It is a struggle to face up to the willful and deliberate disconnect, and that in particular seems to be what makes this place so scummy and sad. The typical employee's labor product is largely performative and does nothing to change the actual financial situation of the college.
