Pros

Coming from a Ph.D. background, what drew me to Celect was the chance to, on the one hand, work with some of the most brilliant minds from academia (cofounders are professors from MIT), and on the other hand, apply the newest research to solve difficult real-world problems in retail. There is a strong culture of science-driven engineering here, and plenty of room to explore, but there is also a chance to deliver visible impact to the world's best known stores and brands almost immediately. It's the best of both worlds. It's also a fun place to work and while work is busy, the atmosphere makes it not so stressful.

Cons

Being a startup, there is less existing structure to guide things along. On the other hand, there is plenty of room to build that structure both in technology and company culture. There are also experienced people here from many backgrounds and I learn something from them every day.

Pros

There is an essence of "capturing lightning in a bottle" here at Celect. There is no doubt that the science out of MIT is truly a scientific breakthrough, but more importantly a product has been built which delivers on the promise of the underlying research. Most importantly, there is a market where this technology seems to be custom made for - every retailer understands the concept of Customer Choice Modeling, and is interested in better understanding how their customers choose. The team here so far is top notch with a mix of experiences and skill sets, and willing to help each other.

Cons

There is still quite a bit of progress that needs to be made on extending the product, but the core platform is built and it works - early customer results have been really, really good. And we are early in our development as a company - about a dozen or so people as I write this post, and this size is not for everyone (but we won't be this size for long).
