I worked at Civitas Learning full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great location Competitive pay Amazing co-workers Great mission (though it is not truly delivered as stated, and success stories are oversold) Data science team was amazing

    Cons

Toxic mid-level management and C-level leadership who don't seem to care about their employees or what it will take to truly help clients. They have a lot of pretty speeches and silly employee benefits (ping pong & alcohol), but the emotional intelligence, commitment to integrity, and how they value people is some of the worst I've seen at any company. Many products were sold half-baked, implementations took upwards...

    Advice to Management

You've attracted some high level talent. Talk to them. Listen. Ask the hard questions, and allow the hard questions to be asked. Make the tough decisions. Be honest and open. The same problems we say lead to problems in higher education run rampant in our own company: resistance to change, poor communication, politics. Clean up your own house.

I worked at Civitas Learning full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Civitas was among my best 2 experiences out of 5 startups. The perks and benefits were startup standards: health benefits, downtown location, flexible vacation, ping pong, snacks, beer keg, company meals, etc. The mission: Civitas' mission convinced me to come over from another great startup. Simplistically, Civitas is helping students finish their degrees. I heard the life changing stories from several impacted...

    Cons

In my opinion there are no exceptional cons. After working at 5 startups, what could be viewed as cons (RIF's, management course changes, org changes, investor changes) were not unusual. Startups are inherently risky and sometimes volatile. Questionable management decisions? Probably, but I've never worked with any executive that batted 1000 in corporate decision making. It's not realistic, and the current best path...

I have been working at Civitas Learning full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - Mission and customers - Capable and close-knit group of employees - Flexible PTO and WFH policies - Excellent office space (that will change in August)

    Cons

    - Incompetent, prideful and willfully ignorant leadership - Low level employees bear the brunt of poor business decisions made by leadership (numerous rounds of layoffs while C-levels and VPs remain in their positions even though they're the ones making the poor decisions) - Company has a goal to "recruit and maintain talent" and "grow people and culture" but consistently demonstrates how replaceable employees are ...

    Advice to Management

Dear Leadership, Stop. Move away from the keyboard. Don't prepare a defense. Prepare to be receptive to what you read. Look through your company reviews. Notice the common thread? YOU. Whether you believe them to be valid concerns of employees invested in Civitas success, or the grumblings of disgruntled former staff who just want to watch the world burn, they still exist. But what to do with them? Ask yourself...
