Pros

The client I worked on was great and compensation was fair

Cons

In my current role, ClearPath serves as my employer of record and provides employer benefits. In the year+ that I’ve worked with ClearPath, ClearPath has shown a recurring pattern of negligence and abject refusal to take responsibility on payroll and benefit requests, resulting in likely violations of state and federal laws. Here are a few examples: -Sent my HSA contributions to the wrong bank account. -Improperly deducted Paid Family Leave, which doesn’t apply to short term employees in my state. -Ignored the instructions on my W-4 and a separate email reminder and withheld the wrong amount of state and city taxes. This happened multiple times. -Claimed it was the 401k provider’s fault I couldn’t set up an account, only for me to discover after several calls that ClearPath never sent the provider my info. -After I updated my 401k contribution % on the provider website, ClearPath never updated payroll to reflect the change. This also happened multiple times. -Sent employee benefits info a week after the Open Enrollment window closed, and only after I asked why I hadn’t received. -After I asked why the health insurer was showing me as inactive, ClearPath claimed I had elected to decline benefits. When I provided the email showing I had in fact signed up, they changed their story to claim that there was an error on the insurance provider website, which was mysteriously resolved a few hours after I sent that email. -Set up the 401k incorrectly, which caused it to fail IRS nondiscrimination testing and resulted in a surprise tax bill for employees. On top of that, ClearPath sent a companywide email explaining this error with additional incorrect information, such as the wrong tax year. ClearPath’s marketing pitch is that they reduce legal and financial risks for their clients by directly employing temporary workers. Instead, ClearPath’s negligence exposes their clients to significant liability. Employers should think carefully before working with them.
