Pros

I joined Cofactor as an intern after undergrad and transitioned into a full-time position. I was tasked with delivering custom analysis and worked on expression, SNP, and denono automated assembly pipelines. I was flattered by the level of trust and advance responsibilities my supervisors (including the CEO) gave me. They motivated constant innovation including a "20%" rule where we could experiment with alternative techniques and potential products. In addition, the culture at Cofactor was very alluring: we were motivated to work hard and succeed, but had balance that encouraged things like an afterwork drink with coworkers. I loved coming into work every day! I was so impressed by the thought process and analytical skills held by management (PhD holders) that I wanted to pursue a PhD as well. It was ultimately with the support of the CEO that i decided to do this. Now, 4 years later, I keep in touch with my former coworkers and I look back on my experience and personal growth with great fondness and gratitude!

Cons

Not enough hours in the day to get a PhD and work at Cofactor at the same time.
