Great Place to Work - Senior Manager Community Rowing Employee Review

Pros

Flexible work environment, great co-workers, great mission to help people stay healthy and connected.

Cons

The pay is at the bottom end of the scale for non-profits in Boston, which isn't surprising considering that this is a rowing club. The benefits are better than average, and managers are supportive of family schedules and outside work commitments.

Pros

If you stay in a coaching role, you will love working with your athletes and fellow coaches every day.

Cons

Unequal pay between men and women, even when women have more experience, seniority, and accomplishments than male staff/applicants. They'll pay the highest hourly coaching rate on the river (so they often claim) but they make sure to keep their most senior and experienced coaches working just under the number of hours required to qualify for healthcare, dental, and retirement benefits, so you will be overworked trying to make ends meet by working multiple jobs on and off the river. If you are a full-time employee with benefits, they will exploit your labor, overwork you, and not offer overtime pay. There is a culture among the administrative staff of sexism, homophobia, and racism, and a lot of denial.
