Pros

The actual work that you do is very rewarding, and I believe this is what keeps people staying at the charity, it is tough work as you are balancing lots of different projects and of course working to support the local community. The workload is high but the payoff of helping, and support people is worth it!

Cons

There is unachievable expectations put on teams which I have never experienced in any other workplace, even in similar roles. There is less than no support given when raising these high caseloads even if this is at the detriment to the service you are delivering. Our team was targeted by the CEO as we were so overworked (which was constantly raised and ignored) and therefore had missed a deadline by a day but instead of providing more resource of support we were told 'we are on the naughty step'. When asking for more training as we were dealing with a lot of referrals who were suicidal, we were told by the CEO 'if you saw someone hit by a car you don't get training for that' and no further training was provided. As a professional service this is appalling. You cannot fit the amount of work expected into the working hours and so will need to work additionally most evening. Projects are taken on without prior thinking of how to staff this. There was also an expectation to work 6 days a week, although you were paid for this there was no room to take your time back and this still was not enough and would be told the CEO was disappointed in us if we couldn't do more. I must have seen at least 2 staff members cry per week about the workload or how they had been spoken to by management.

Pros

Some of the staff are nice to work with. Some of the ideas for supporting the community are good and exciting in the beginning.

Cons

Literally the most unprofessional place I have ever worked at. Forget modern employment law or protection and safe guarding for employees - you will have none. The CEOs vacuousness trumps everything. The charity is run by means of bullying and victimising staff. Budgets and donations randomly disappear without trace…….then as if by magic, the CEOs husband has a new contract for works. CEO is unhinged and vicious…..disagreeing with her is not an option. She runs the charity as if it is her own business and it has become very lucrative and beneficial for her and her family. It’s high time rhat the Trustees stepped in to remove this toxic person before the charity is ruined. All I have achieved from working here is a prescription for anti depressants and a referral for counselling.
