Cons

Be cautious if you are considering Heartland Business Systems. In my experience, the company culture and internal dynamic have shifted significantly. What once felt like a customer-first organization now feels much more revenue-driven, with leadership pushing teams to “go where the money is,” often at the expense of employees and customers. The strongest engineers seem to carry the heaviest burden. There is a noticeable “turn and burn” feeling, where high performers are pushed to their limits while others may be quickly pushed out if they cannot keep pace. The phrase “they whip their fastest horses” feels fitting, because the best engineers often end up absorbing the pressure from unrealistic expectations, tight timelines, and under-resourced projects. Customers also feel the impact. In my view, the company continues to take on work without always having enough engineering resources to deliver at the level customers expect. This creates stress for employees and can result in customers being let down despite engineers doing their best. Heartland used to feel more focused on doing right by customers and supporting employees. Under newer leadership, it feels like the priority has shifted toward money first, with engineers left to carry the consequences.
