Pros

Supportive and Collaborative Environment. Though events can be stressful management and co-workers maintained calm under pressure. This is both a testament to good hiring practices and professional management ethos.

Cons

I am hard pressed to give cons. The outline of the job was clear, expectations were clear, and if I was not working up to par, instruction was diplomatic and thorough.

Pros

As a very part-time employee, I've had an incredible experience at DMNS. The culture is very inclusive from what I can tell, and the training is thorough compared to other positions I've held. This is a great place to gain experience.

Cons

Not many hours are available for new, part-time employees. I think this is because most people who work there choose to stay there.

Pros

As an institution, the museum is great There’s lots of cool stuff to see deep behind the scenes. Collections are really cool to go and look at. If you go in on your day off, you get to see free shows

Cons

Upper management in the Food services department is utterly incompetent.Nepotism is horribly pervasive. Friends and family members have been hired under the nose of HR who are either blind or intentionally looking the other way. If you are a friend of or family relation to the banquet manager, you can basically do WHATEVER you want. Anyone who brings up concerns or has a complaint is ignored and then slowly pushed out. Alcohol policy and regulations are so relaxed that underage employees are often drinking alcohol at work. During my eight years of employment here I have seen the standards go from excellent to possibly mediocre Best. The Work environment front of the house back of the house and in the kitchen is completely toxic with no end in sight. And again any complaints or concerns that are brought too late or ignored and the person who brought them up must then deal with retaliation from upper management The entire department is overseen by the same manager who runs the gift shop. This manager has no idea how to operate in the food services industry. Mistakes are repeated over and over. There’s no empathy only the requirement that you exceed expectations with one hand, tied behind your back and your tools for success slowly taken away one at a time
